Letter Match
In the spirit of the classic card-matching memory game.

A board of face-down cards with every character on two of them. Turn one over and it says itself; turn another and the same happens. Find a pair and you still have to name it.

A matching pair does not clear on its own. Both cards sit there lit up until you type the character, which turns a game about remembering positions into a game about knowing what you are looking at. You can spot that two shapes are the same without having any idea what they say — this closes that gap.
A wrong pair costs time, not a life
Turn over two cards that do not match and nothing bad happens except the clock: a few seconds off, the cards turn back, carry on. There is no punishment for exploring, which is the right way round for a memory game. What ends a board is running out of time, and what is left on the clock when you clear it is your bonus.
Everything is spoken
Each card says its character as it turns over, so you hear every character at least twice a board — once on each card. If you have recorded pronunciations in the Study Room, those are what you hear.
How it grows
Four pairs and eight seconds each at level one; ten pairs and four and a half seconds each by level fifty, with whole words on the cards after that.
